President Mahama Ranked 5th Most Powerful Global Figure
Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has been named the 5th Most Powerful person in the world of development and changemaking.
The ranking was done by respected international development publication Devex, recognizing his leadership in advancing the Accra Reset agenda and reshaping global cooperation.
The ranking places President Mahama among a select group of influential figures driving change in international aid, financing, and development policy amid major shifts in the global landscape. Devex highlighted his emergence as a leading voice calling for a new deal for African development, pushing back against aid-dependent models and advocating reforms in debt relief, trade, and climate finance.

The publication cited President Mahama’s central argument that Africa must renegotiate its place in the global economic order rather than adapt to declining foreign aid. It spotlighted the Accra Reset as a defining pillar of his influence—first launched in August 2025 in Accra as a vision for African health sovereignty, later expanded at the United Nations General Assembly in September to encompass broader development.
Devex described the Accra Reset as a bold effort to end “development-as-usual,” particularly in response to cuts in U.S. foreign aid, and to promote new governance, business, and financing models. Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo serves as a key adviser to the initiative.
The Power 50 list, introduced by Devex, reflects the sector’s “tectonic shifts” over the past year, as major donors retrench and new actors emerge. It includes leaders from government, philanthropy, multilateral finance, artificial intelligence, and global health. Ranked ahead of President Mahama are Benjamin Black (CEO, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation), Sidi Ould Tah (President, African Development Bank), Anna Makanju (Vice President, Global Impact | OpenAI), and Alexander Berger (Cofounder and CEO, Coefficient Giving).
The recognition underscores Ghana’s rising profile in global development debates and positions the Accra Reset as one of the most influential ideas redefining international cooperation in 2026.

Palestinian Embassy in Ghana Pushes Global Sanctions on Israel Over Controversial Death Penalty Law
Accra, Ghana – The Palestinian Embassy in Ghana has called on the international community to impose sanctions and pursue legal action against Israel following the passage of a new law authorising the death penalty for certain Palestinian detainees.
Charge d’Affaires Mr. Ahmed Abu Dalfa described the legislation, passed by the Israeli Knesset on March 30, 2026, as a blatant violation of international law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949.
He labelled the law as “apartheid legislation” that institutionalises racial discrimination by applying capital punishment to Palestinians convicted of “nationalistic” or terrorism-related offences while exempting Israelis for similar acts.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Mr. Dalfa highlighted documented human rights abuses against Palestinians, including killings, starvation, sexual abuse, enforced disappearances, withholding of bodies, and denial of fundamental rights.
He expressed deep concern over the deteriorating conditions of more than 9,500 Palestinian prisoners — including women and children — in Israeli detention, even after a ceasefire.
“A law that prescribes death for one group while exempting another for the same act is not a law of justice but a legal instrument for domination and segregation,” he said.
Mr. Dalfa urged immediate diplomatic pressure, targeted sanctions, and stronger engagement with international judicial bodies to ensure accountability. The press conference was attended by representatives from the Cuban and Algerian Embassies, underscoring regional diplomatic solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
The statement reflects growing frustration with what the embassy described as continued global inaction amid persistent violations in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
