Court Clears Path: Daddy Lumba’s Funeral Expected to Proceed Tomorrow After Parties Seeking to Block it Fail to Produce GH¢2 Million

Published

on

The funeral of iconic Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba is expected to go ahead tomorrow, Saturday, December 13.

This is after parties involved in a family dispute failed to meet the GH¢2 million payment deadline (2:pm on Friday) set by the Accra High Court.

According to Citi News the court ruled on Friday that unless the applicants—members of the late musician’s maternal family—paid GH¢2 million by the stated deadline, Transitions Funeral Home would be permitted to release the body for burial. That payment was not made.

Transitions Funeral Home, through its lawyers, confirmed that they are now awaiting a certified copy of the court’s directive to formally proceed with tomorrow’s funeral arrangements.

What Led to the Court Order?

The ruling follows months of legal back-and-forth over who holds the authority to organise Daddy Lumba’s funeral. An earlier injunction had barred the family head from undertaking funeral preparations and prevented Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body until the dispute was resolved.

However, the new directive—issued on Friday—stated that non-payment of GH¢2 million by the applicants would allow the burial to move forward.

Applicants Call Directive “Practically Impossible”

Lawyers for the applicants argued that the court’s latest instruction was legally flawed, stating the judge could not vary earlier injunction orders without proper notice. They told the court that raising GH¢2 million within the specified time was “practically impossible.”

Instead, they proposed signing an undertaking to pay the amount at a later date and cautioned that altering orders mid-process risked misleading the public and complicating the ongoing dispute.

Respondents Say GH¢2m Too Small

Respondents insisted that GH₵2 million was not enough to cover expenses already incurred, including commitments to dignitaries, contractors, and arrangements already set in motion for the burial. They urged the court to raise the amount to more than GH₵5 million.

They also maintained that if the applicants could not meet the financial obligation, the funeral should proceed without further delay.

Court Clarifies Scope of Directive

The Accra High Court clarified that its new directive does not apply to the Daddy Lumba LBG Foundation or the second respondent in the case. The ruling strictly addresses the issue of whether the funeral home can release the body while financial matters continue to wind through the courts.

The court made it clear that failure to pay the GH¢2 million compels Transitions Funeral Home to release the body for burial.

So, Will the Funeral Happen Tomorrow?

Based on the court’s ruling—and the applicants’ inability to raise the required GH¢2 million—the funeral is expected to proceed tomorrow.

Transitions Funeral Home is preparing to move forward once it receives the certified order.

Unless a last-minute legal intervention occurs, tomorrow’s funeral will close a turbulent chapter in the months-long dispute over Daddy Lumba’s burial.

The developments mark a turning point in a case that has captured national attention, involving one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians.

Russian Embassy Criticized for “Empty” Statement on Viral Exploitation Videos involving Citizen

Published

on

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ghana has issued a brief statement in the wake of widespread public anger and social media uproar over allegations that Russian nationals are luring young Ghanaian women into filmed sexual encounters for online distribution without consent.

The release posted on X on February 16, 2026, fails to condemn the alleged exploitation, non-consensual recording, and distribution of intimate material by its nationals.

“The Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Ghana has taken note of the reports in the Ghanaian media on the alleged involvement of a supposedly Russian citizen engaged in sexual activities with some Ghanaian women and recorded those acts without consent,” the post read.

The response comes after days of viral outrage on X, TikTok, Instagram, and WhatsApp groups, where screenshots, testimonies, and alleged links to explicit content prompted hashtags such as #ProtectGhanaianWomen and #StopTheRussianScheme.

MP Sam George, chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Gender, Children and Social Protection, has announced Ghana’s intent to pursue extradition if the primary suspect.

Responses on X

Responses to the post have been stronly worded. One person posted:

“Never trust those Russian scum. They throw African men into their war as cannon fodder & treat African women like disposable sex toys. Pure racist evil. Predators, not partners. WAKE UP AFRICA.”

Another asked:

“Any action taken?”

Another asked:

“So after taking the note, what next?”

Ghanaian authorities have disclosed they will pursue extradition proceedings against the man, said to have left Ghana.

The decision was announced by Member of Parliament Sam George on February 13, 2026, following weeks of public outrage over the alleged scheme.

According to Sam George — who chairs the Parliamentary Committee on Gender, Children and Social Protection — the suspect is believed to be a Russian national who used dating apps and social media to target young Ghanaian women, particularly students and professionals in Accra and other urban centres.

Victims were reportedly lured with promises of money, gifts or relationships, only to discover later that explicit videos were uploaded to adult websites and shared in private groups, often leading to blackmail, humiliation and threats.
