ARCE 2026: Where African Real Estate Meets Culture in the Heart of Accra
What happens when the people shaping Africa’s cities gather in one place and make room for culture alongside conversations about property, technology and investment? In Accra this October, the answer will be ARCE 2026, an event designed to look at Africa’s built environment while creating space for the continent’s identity and traditions.
A Meeting Point for Africa’s Property Future
The Africa Real Estate Conference & Expo (ARCE 2026) will take place at The Palms Convention Center in Accra from October 14 to 16, 2026. It brings together developers, investors, policymakers, financial institutions, architects, urban planners, technology companies and other professionals from across Africa and beyond.
At its core are some of the questions shaping the continent’s future: How can African cities provide affordable homes?

How can technology improve property markets? What role should sustainability play in construction? And how can better land administration and investment create stronger communities?
With delegates expected from more than 30 countries and more than 70 exhibitors, the event offers an unusually broad window into Africa’s rapidly changing real estate landscape.
Culture Takes Its Place at the Table

For visitors to Accra, however, the experience is not only about conference rooms and property exhibitions. African Culture Day adds a distinctly cultural dimension to the programme, offering an opportunity to encounter African heritage alongside discussions about the continent’s future.
That combination is particularly fitting in Ghana, where traditional communities, historic architecture and rapidly developing urban neighbourhoods exist side by side. Accra itself provides a living backdrop to the conversation, from older neighbourhoods and markets to contemporary commercial districts and emerging residential developments.

Why Attend?
For international visitors, ARCE 2026 offers a chance to understand Africa through more than its investment figures.

For Ghanaians, it presents an opportunity to engage with conversations about how their cities are evolving while celebrating the cultural identity that gives those cities meaning.
For three days, property, innovation and culture meet under one roof—making ARCE 2026 a timely invitation to experience where Africa has come from, where it lives today, and where its cities may be heading next.

Velukusi Festival: Re-enacting the Ewe Escape to Freedom in Ve-Deme
Water splashes against an imaginary wall as people gather to witness one of the most powerful stories in Ewe history.
In Ve-Deme, in Ghana’s Volta Region, the Velukusi Festival brings an ancestral struggle for freedom into the present, transforming a story of oppression, courage and escape into a living act of remembrance.
Celebrated during the first week of October, Velukusi commemorates the traditional account of the Ewes’ escape from the cruel rule of King Aghorkoli in Togo. According to the story passed down through generations, the Ewes were held behind a formidable wall.
Determined to break free, they repeatedly poured water onto a section of the structure until it weakened and collapsed.
Their escape did not end with the fallen wall. To conceal their direction of travel, they walked backwards, leaving misleading footprints for those who might pursue them. This extraordinary detail has become a defining feature of the festival’s historical re-enactment.
Bringing Ancestral Courage to Life
During Velukusi, the community revisits the escape through a dramatic performance that allows younger generations and visitors to connect with the experience of their forebears.
The re-enactment gives physical expression to a story that speaks of collective determination, ingenuity and the enduring human desire for freedom.
The festival reaches its climax with a colourful display of traditional cloths and beads, followed by a grand durbar of chiefs.
Traditional regalia, customary leadership and communal gatherings place Ewe identity at the centre of the celebration.
A Living Heritage
For the people of Ve-Deme, Velukusi is more than a historical commemoration. It strengthens community bonds and keeps ancestral memory alive at a time when younger generations are increasingly exposed to global influences.
For visitors exploring Ghana, the festival offers an opportunity to encounter the Volta Region’s heritage through storytelling, ceremony and traditional craftsmanship.
Velukusi reminds us that freedom is worth remembering—and that experiencing the traditions of Ve-Deme is a meaningful way to understand the resilience of the Ewe people.
