Inspire Cape Coast 2026: Can Tourism, Events and Media Put Oguaa on the Global Map?
Cape Coast holds centuries of history within its coastal streets, historic forts and cultural traditions. Yet, for many visitors to Ghana, the journey ends in Accra. A gathering planned for December hopes to change that by bringing together the people who can help put Oguaa firmly on the international tourism map.
The second edition of Inspire Cape Coast will take place on Friday, December 4, 2026, at Ridge Royal Hotel in Cape Coast. Organised by the Visit Cape Coast Initiative, the one-day summit will focus on tourism, events and media, exploring how these sectors can work together to attract more visitors and investment to the historic city.

The maiden summit, held last year under the theme Connecting Ideas, Inspiring Change, brought together traditional authorities, educators, local government representatives and young professionals. This year’s edition builds on that foundation with a sharper focus on growing Cape Coast’s visitor economy.
Participants can expect keynote presentations, panel discussions and networking opportunities featuring leaders in hospitality, festivals, broadcasting and digital media. Discussions will examine how to encourage tourists to stay longer, strengthen festival programming, attract sponsorship and use storytelling to promote the city.
The summit’s significance extends beyond business. Cape Coast is home to Cape Coast Castle, a powerful reminder of the transatlantic slave trade and an important destination for members of the African diaspora seeking to reconnect with their heritage. Its proximity to Elmina and Kakum National Park also offers visitors opportunities to explore Ghana’s history, coastal life and natural environment.

For tourism operators, creatives, journalists, investors and students, Inspire Cape Coast offers a platform to develop partnerships and shape the city’s future. For international visitors and Ghanaians returning home during the December festivities, it highlights the experiences that make Cape Coast worth exploring beyond a day trip.
As Ghana prepares for another busy December season, Inspire Cape Coast 2026 invites stakeholders to turn the city’s rich heritage into lasting opportunities for its people.

The initiative comes at a time when Accra continues to attract international professionals, entrepreneurs, returning members of the diaspora, and visitors drawn to Ghana’s business opportunities, hospitality, and cultural heritage.
For newcomers, finding community can be an important part of settling into a different environment.
For Ghanaians, such gatherings offer opportunities to share their experiences and engage with people from different backgrounds.

Attendees can expect a relaxed atmosphere centred on networking, exchanging stories and learning about life in Ghana. Conversations may range from navigating everyday life in Accra to exploring real estate opportunities and discovering the country’s cultural landscape.
While the organisers have not announced specific performances, musical acts or a food programme, the gathering promises an informal setting for meeting new people and sharing perspectives.

Films, Politics and Place: AFI Opens a New Window on Ghana’s Story
Accra’s story is written not only in its buildings and streets but also in its elections, public spaces and the lives of the people who inhabit them.
On Thursday, October 29, 2026, the African Futures Institute (AFI) invites audiences to explore these connections through ** The Long and The Short: An African Election and Autopsy of a Nation **, an evening of film and conversation in Osu.
Where Cinema Meets African Identity
The screening launches On Screen at AFI, a new programme exploring how moving images can expand our understanding of African architecture, cities and spatial cultures.
Its inaugural edition pairs Jarreth Merz’s documentary An African Election with Autopsy of a Nation, a short film by Diarietou Nasradine Diop, a participant in AFI’s Nomadic African Studio.

Together, the films examine the forces shaping Ghana as a nation, including political power, territory, citizenship, movement and belonging. By bringing different filmmaking perspectives into dialogue, the programme encourages viewers to consider how national identity is formed and how the spaces people occupy reflect wider social and political realities.
An Evening of Film and Conversation
The programme begins with drinks at Haptic Bar at 6pm, followed by an introduction at 6:30pm. Screenings start at 6:40pm, with a conversation featuring Merz, Diop and invited respondents scheduled for 8:15pm.
Rather than offering a conventional cinema outing, the event creates space for reflection and exchange. Audiences can engage with the filmmakers’ perspectives and consider how documentary storytelling reveals dimensions of a country that architecture alone may not capture.
A Different Way to Experience Accra
For international visitors, the screening offers an opportunity to look beyond familiar tourist attractions and engage with Ghana’s political and cultural landscape through film. For Ghanaians, it provides a chance to revisit questions of national identity, democratic life and collective memory.
The event takes place at AFI HQ in Osu, Accra, and ends at 8:30pm. Booking is essential, with limited seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.
For anyone curious about the relationship between cinema, society and the places people call home, this evening promises a thoughtful encounter with Ghana’s evolving story.
